Rafelcofer, in Valencia, in the La Safor area, is a small town with a distinct identity and a history that’s still visible today. It’s a place in which you can totally disconnect, with bright streets and walking routes that hint at the lives of those who once lived here. Come and explore it!
Things to do in Rafelcofer
A saunter through the old town
Starting your visit in the centre of Rafelcofer means immersing yourself straight into the area’s traditional architecture. Don’t miss the Parish Church of San Antonio de Padua and San Diego de Alcalá. Although its current style is neoclassical, its origins date back to the 16th century, and inside you’ll find beautifully carved wooden altarpieces.
From there, take a walk along Calle Mayor. Its 17th-century layout is still clearly visible, with narrow sections and gentle bends. Along the way, you’ll spot modernist and eclectic façades with decorative ironwork, as well as sundials and devotional ceramics—features typical of Valencian country homes. It feels like an open-air museum!
You’ll also find more ceramic religious panels along Calle San Antonio and Calle Cervantes, all dating from the early 19th century. The one on Calle Xiquet was once part of a Vía Crucis, a traditional route marking the Stations of the Cross.
Nature and traces of the past in Rafelcofer
If you’re looking to get outdoors, the route through the Rabat and San Miguel hills is truly something else. This easy walk is suitable for everyone and comes with some of the best views over La Safor.
- El Rabat: Known as the Mountain of the Cross, it’s an important archaeological site where you can imagine life in an Iberian settlement from the 5th century BC.
- Monte de San Miguel: A small rise home to the Hermitage of San Miguel Arcángel (16th century), built on the remains of a former Roman villa.
If you’re interested in archaeology, the Rafelcofer Town Hall manages a collection of Iberian and Roman finds from the area, which can be visited by appointment. Why not come and explore this slice of La Safor, surrounded by bright open skies, for yourself?
