The Patron Saint Festivities of the Mare de Déu d'Agres commemorate the miracle of 1484 with traditional pilgrimages to the sanctuary, historical performances and cultural activities.

Las Festes Patronals de la Mare de Déu d'Agres, the Patron Saint Festivities of the Virgin of Agres, in Alicante, are also known as the Fiestas del Pastoret. Their origins lie in the commemoration of a miracle said to have taken place in 1484, when a shepherd found an image of the Virgin among the ruins of the local castle.

What do the Patron Saint Festivities of the Virgin of Agres involve?

The programme has strong cultural and traditional roots. At the end of August, an emotional re-enactment of the appearance of the Virgin takes place, recalling the story that links the town with the church where the image had been kept before reappearing in Agres. The celebrations continue in early September with popular events and conclude with pilgrimages to the sanctuary on three Sundays during the month.
