Every August, Altea comes to life with an impressive firework display launched in the sea. Come to Castell de l’Olla to enjoy one of the most unique pyrotechnical spectacles you will ever see.

On the Saturday closest to San Lorenzo (the 10 August), Altea hosts a breathtakingly beautiful firework display. Castell de l'Olla is a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, drawing in over 50,000 people every year with a spectacle of light, colour and gunpowder that illuminates the night sky.

The setting of the firework display is what makes Castell de l’Olla particularly spectacular. A platform floating in the Mediterranean is loaded with fireworks which are then set off, creating a colourful show whose fizz and sparkle is reflected in the waters. A truly magical sight.

Held now for over 30 years, the festival’s origins relate to Blas Aznar, a famed local pyrotechnician. Following his death, the community decided to pay homage to the great man, and the celebration has existed ever since. Over the years the festival has morphed and evolved: music is now choreographed to the display and boats bob about in the bay, offering the best seat in the house.

Come to Altea in August to marvel at Castell d’Olla and, while you’re here, take the opportunity to wander the town’s historic streets, chill out on the beach and enjoy the delicious local gastronomy. This charming seaside destination will soon win your heart.
