The Moors and Christians Festival is known for its emblematic re-enactment of a landing on Carrer la Mar beach. From 11 to 15 October, the celebrations continue with colourful parades through the town.

The Desembarcament i Festes de Moros i Cristians del Campello, El Campello Landing and Moors and Christians Festival, in Alicante, takes place from 11 to 15 October and is one of the town’s great displays of local history and tradition.

Things to see at El Campello Landing and Moors and Christians Festival

The moment everyone waits for comes in the early hours of 12 October, when the Moorish Landing is re-enacted on Carrer la Mar beach. It is followed by the traditional embajada, a staged encounter between the opposing sides played out beside the Mediterranean. As the festival continues, the action moves to Plaça Saint Christol les Alès, where mock skirmishes and ceremonial speeches unfold in front of the festival castle. Elsewhere, the streets fill with parades, period costumes, music and light. The programme comes to a close on 15 October with commemorative events in honour of Santa Teresa and the Virgen de los Desamparados, before a major firework display brings the celebrations to their finale.
