What to see in El Ràfol d’Almúnia and the surrounding area
The history and heritage of El Ràfol d’Almúnia trace back to its origins as an old alquería, and even today the village has managed to hold onto its peaceful character. To begin exploring, we recommend starting in the town centre at the Church of San Francisco de Paula, whose origins date back to the 16th century and which houses a couple of artworks of particular interest!
Afterwards, make your way to the traditional washhouse, a simple yet charming spot that has been beautifully preserved over the years. It’s also the perfect place to stop for a few photos!
Walking routes in the Serra de Segària from El Ràfol d’Almúnia
El Ràfol d’Almúnia is one of the villages that make up the historic sub-area of La Rectoría in the Marina Alta, alongside Sagra, Benimeli, Sanet y Negrals and Tormos. Together, they share history as well as a network of routes and paths that you will just love walking along.
Bolata Route – La Rectoria: This easy walking route stretches for around 15 km and links several villages in this historic area while following the course of the Girona river. Along the way, you’ll pass old mills and natural springs.
Ruta Arquitectura de l’Aigua de la Rectoría: Washhouses, fountains and irrigation channels are all part of this easy, circular route of just over 4 km.
Other interesting routes lead to the Cocoví Cave, where ancient cave paintings can still be seen, or to the mountain pass of Els Sorells.
