Sitting atop mount El Tossalet, Ermita del Santísimo Cristo del Calvario, El Santísimo Cristo del Calvario Chapel, is one of the most soulful spots in Gata de Gorgos in the province of Alicante. Construction on the chapel began in 1762, but it wasn’t completed until 1905, when the bell tower and the Vía Crucis chapels were added.

During the Civil War, the chapel served as an impromptu hospital, and many sacred artefacts were damaged. However, thanks to the care of the locals, they were preserved and restored. Today, El Santísimo Cristo del Calvario Chapel houses the statue of the town’s patron saint, El Santísimo Cristo del Calvario, year-round. Fancy a visit to feel the history within its walls?
