Built in the second half of the 18th century on the site of a former hospital and almshouse, Capilla del Ecce Homo, Ecce Homo Chapel, is Pego’s principal place of worship dedicated to the town’s patron saint and an important part of its local history.

Things to see at Ecce Homo Church - Chapel in Pego

Designed by the renowned architect Fray Francisco Cabezas, the chapel is noted for its elegant octagonal Baroque layout. Its exterior dome, crowned with blue tiles, rises to a height of 14.5 metres and floods an interior filled with gilding, decorative motifs and painted 18th-century medallions with light. The main altarpiece houses a venerated wooden carving of the Santo Ecce Homo dating from the 16th or 17th century, which lies at the heart of a deeply rooted local tradition. A visit offers the chance to admire the building itself and hear the stories and legends that have grown around the chapel and its brotherhood over the centuries.
