Estret de les Aigües de Bellús: nature in Valencia
If you’re looking for family-friendly nature walks in the Region of Valencia, go for the shorter route to the Estret de les Aigües. It’s an easy circular trail starting in Bellús. It’s just under two miles, with hardly any ascent, and follows the River Albaida to the Casa de la Luz, just over the boundary in Xàtiva. Expect plenty of shade, helpful interpretation panels and a setting that invites you to slow down and simply enjoy the walk.
There are also longer options for anyone keen to stretch their legs. From a car park roughly a mile north of the village, right by the river, you can do an out-and-back walk of about four and a half miles. Along the way you’ll pass some cracking spots, including the Cova de la Petxina, the Cova Negra in Xàtiva and Les Arcadetes d’Alboi—an atmospheric Gothic-style aqueduct where you’ll start the return leg.
You can also extend the route to just over nine miles to add landmarks like the Cova dels Coloms, plus fascinating archaeological sites and monuments in the city of Xàtiva itself. In other words, you can tailor the walk to suit your pace, time and interests.
Another highlight you’ll come across—marked by the old vents you’ll spot along parts of the trail—is the historic Bellús–Xàtiva Canal, fed by a spring right by the Estret de les Aigües. Today it’s a great example of traditional water engineering and a way to connect with the valley’s natural and cultural heritage.
Explore the Estret de les Aigües, soak up its natural beauty and treat yourself to a walk through an agricultural landscape steeped in tradition and history. Don’t miss the chance to experience this special corner of inland Valencia.
