The Grail is the most important relic in the history of Christianity. Shrouded in mystery and legends, the grail is a cup that is considered holy as, according to the Gospels, Jesus Christ used it to officiate the Last Supper with the twelve disciples. So, is the Holy Cup located in València?
Tradition has it that the cup - which was a significant object in the Crusades in the Middle Ages - is currently housed in a chapel inside València cathedral. If you’re interested in discovering all the secrets of this most mysterious relic, you can take the Grail Trail.
The Grail Trail
The Grail continues to intrigue many people, and not just those with a religious interest. Indeed, the cup was a secret of the Knights Templar and the most famous part of Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous work, The Last Supper.
In 2015, the Vatican declared València a Jubilee City. Celebrated every five years, Jubilee Year recognises the Holy Grail in València as authentic, making the city one of seven Jubilee Cities in the world.
The Holy Trail in València starts in the Royal Gardens, which are locally known as Viveros. The route then continues along the Turia gardens, which run through what used to be the river of the same name, to Iglesia y Palacio del Temple. This was once the site of the city gates, which the Holy Grail passed through on its way to the cathedral in 1437.
You will then continue to central Plaza de la Virgen where València cathedral proudly sits. The trail comes to an end here, having shown you the city’s history and connection with the Holy Cup.
