Vuelta de la Hoz Trail in Jérica: All You Need to Know
The Vuelta de la Hoz trail starts at the Los Chorradores weir, where on rainy days a small waterfall forms and can be seen from the path. The route then follows the old irrigation channel that once led to the mill, passing through narrow stretches where you can spot climbing walls. The dramatic scenery created by the sheer rock faces of Peña Tajada is sure to stop you in your tracks.
From the path, you’ll catch glimpses of the enigmatic cuevas de los Herreros. These caves are hard to reach, but are all the more intriguing for it, lending the surroundings real character. If you fancy a dose of local history the Jérica Museum even displays Neolithic remains discovered nearby.
A little further on, there’s a rest area which is ideal for a breather. Roll out a picnic, let the kids have a run around, or wander down to the river’s edge. From here, look up and you’ll see the ruins of the second mill and the castle’s keep (Torre del Homenaje), standing proudly above the mountainside.
The Vuelta de la Hoz route ends at Puente de Navarza, beside the old Molino de la Morería. From here you can head back to the start, pop over to the Fuente de la Gota, or carry on walking into Jérica. It’s a truly special spot—wild, scenic and well worth the trip.
La Vuelta de la Hoz isn't just a wonderful option for nature tourism and enjoying the great outdoors. It's also a chance to connect with local history and culture, thanks to traces left behind by ancient civilisations. And if you fancy it, rock climbing is another fantastic way to make the most of this place.
