*Interstates of Becoming* is a series of seven photobook-sculptures exploring the relationship between human beings and the environments they share, highlighting the mutual impact humans and mountains have on one another as they lead interdependent lives. Centered on the Himalayan mountains of northwestern India—and tracing the Hindustan-Tibet Road built by the British in 1856—the works depict the current elements (both constructed and deconstructed) of this ongoing interaction. They underscore the futility of environmental control, the exploitation of inhabitants and workers, and the impact of large-scale hydrological development in a high-risk seismic zone. It is an observed lesson on the majesty of our environment and our subordination to it.

This exhibition presents four of the seven photobook-sculptures. Each utilizes individual elements from the construction process to lend three-dimensionality to its depicted narrative, challenging traditional interpretations of how we view, read, and interact with the photobook.

Free entrance.
