Sitting at the foot of Sierra de Espadán Natural Park in the province of Castellón, Betxí is an excellent choice for a rural getaway. The sights and trails will have you coming back time and time again. Shall we take a look around?

What to see in Betxí

If you are wondering what to do in Betxí, a good place to start your exploration is in the centre. Take a walk around and before too long you will come across Betxí Palace Castle, a beautiful example of Valencian civil Renaissance architecture with Mannerist and Gothic features. Located in the heart of the town, this is a building that will blow you away.

Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles is a lovely Baroque church dating back to the 17th century. The area has been a place of worship for many centuries: in the past it was home to a small church and a mosque. We also recommend visiting the Stations of the Cross whose chapel and gardens are open to the public. If you book in advance, you can also take a look around Betxí’s Municipal Ethnological Museum.

In the town’s surroundings, make sure you visit San Antonio chapel and, if you love history, Lloma de Betxí archaeological site, which has incredible remains from the Bronze Age. The site is open and easy to visit. There are also plenty of citrus tree groves, which are a joy to wander around if you like scenery that combines wildlife and agricultural land.

Every year, Betxí hosts Transbetxí, a race unlike anything else. At the event, the drivers and their teams “convert” their agricultural equipment into racing vehicles. This hilarious contest has been taking place since 1989 and has since become an unmissable event in the town programme every April. So what do you think? Start planning your getaway to this small treasure in inland province of Castellón and fall in love with its rural charm.
