Come and discover a corner of Castellón brimming with tradition and set in a truly beautiful natural landscape. Make a note for your next getaway!

Useras, in Castellón province, is a municipality located between ravines and mountains, dotted with farmhouses, agricultural crops and small urban centres that you should not miss. We tell you all the reasons why you should discover it!

Useras: what to see

In the town centre of Useras we recommend you take a look at the Town Hall building and the Parish Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, built on the remains of an ancient castle. The first stone of this monument was probably laid in 1613 and it is accompanied by a total of four hermitages in the municipality: the Virgin of Loreto, the hermitage of Christ, Saint Waldesca and Saint Anthony, dating from 1622.

We also recommend you visit the numerous springs in the area around Useras, such as those of La Ponsa, La Presola, La Font Jordana, Mas d’en Retor and, above all, la Font de més Amunt. The latter has an ancient peiró – a cross or column that was placed to delimit municipal boundaries or to pay tribute, and an ancient stone basin, as well as the village mill pond.

But without a doubt, the pilgrimage of the Useres Pilgrims is the best-known attraction of this Castellón town. This festival consists of the journey of 13 men from Useras to San Juan de Peñagolosa and has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. It is held on the last Friday in April and, accompanied by singers and other official and symbolic figures, they carry their promises to the Sanctuary of San Juan de Peñagolosa, a pilgrimage full of rituals and symbolism!

The participation of everybody in Useras is exciting, and various ceremonies, stops and meals take place along the route, the most emotional of which is arrival at the sanctuary on Saturday morning. This beautiful route has become one of the attractions of Useras in its own right, and an authentic natural monument. Visit the thematic museum in the village to learn more about this deep-rooted custom. Come and enjoy Useras!
