The Camí dels Pelegrins de les Useres, also known as the Les Useres Pilgrim Trail, is a natural monument and a wondrous traditional route which, as well as holding great cultural value and having long connected villages tucked between the mountains, leads you through wow-worthy scenery.
As you follow the Camí dels Pelegrins de les Useres, you will make your way across mountains and ravines with dizzying drops, while the vegetation gradually changes as the route climbs higher into Penyagolosa Natural Park. Along the way, you can enjoy pines, holm oaks, Spanish junipers and Valencian oaks.
This route has been declared a natural monument thanks to its rich biodiversity and spectacular landscapes, as well as the many sites of ethnological and heritage interest found along the way, including archaeological remains, traditional farmhouses, medieval hermitages, castles and numerous natural springs.
And yet, beyond its undeniable natural beauty, there are several reasons why the Camí dels Pelegrins de les Useres is so special. First of all, it is the setting for an ancient pilgrimage, a rogation procession declared an Intangible Asset of Cultural Interest, which takes you right back to the Middle Ages. During the pilgrimage, thirteen pilgrims and their companions walk the mountain route to the sound of Gregorian chants and litanies, with the first light of dawn guiding their way.
It is also a real jewel for hikers in the Region of Valencia, since the Camí dels Pelegrins de les Useres forms part of a long-distance route, the GR-33, also known as the Sendero de la Luna Llena. Come and discover this natural monument for yourself as it traverses the terrains of Chodos, Useras, Lucena del Cid and Vistabella del Maestrat!
