Festivals in Useras

Useres, Useras, is a charming destination in the province of Castellón, known for its deep-rooted traditions and festivities that celebrate the local history and culture. There’s plenty to celebrate here!

Let’s start with San Antonio Festival, which takes place every year on the weekend closest to 17 January. In the lead up to the festival, children run through the streets dragging panderos - cans tied to long ropes - that fill the town with clanging noises. The celebrations also include the traditional matxà, with bonfires lit in several streets and the customary rotllos, sweet baked goods, which are handed out to those attending. The following day, a Mass and procession are held in honour of the saint.

Carnival, whose dates vary each year, is also celebrated in a special way in Useras. In April, the town holds the Pilgrimage from Les Useres to Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, a procession of great historical and symbolic importance. 

Every May, the Les Useres Wine Fair offers the chance to sample wines from local wineries in a buzzy setting created by a varied programme of entertainment and activities. 

Finally, the Patron Saint Festivities arrive in early August, honouring El Salvador and Cristo de la Agonía with street bull events, live music and a wide range of cultural, religious and sporting activities. Visit Useras and experience its traditions and culture for yourself. 

Another key cultural event to experience is 'La Peregrinación de Useras a San Juan de Peñagolosa', a religious pilgrimage declared an Event of Cultural Interest in 2016, which also received the Cultural Merit distinction from the Generalitat Valenciana.

And you can’t miss the Patron Saint Festival at the beginning of August, in honour of Salvador and Cristo de la Agonía. This celebration sees bulls released on the streets, live music, cultural activities, religious ceremonies and sports events.

The Wine Fair is also held every year in Les Useres, comprising wine tastings in the local bodegas and plenty of entertainment and activities, stirring up a festival atmosphere.
