The sanctuary is steeped in myth. Legend has it that the representation of the patron saint of Villafranca del Cid, Virgen del Llosar, was found by a farmhand who was ploughing the land with two donkeys. Virgen del Llosar is a small sculpture, just 40cm tall, made of marble or white alabaster. In her left arm she is carrying the young Christ and has a bird on her hand, while her right hand is holding a bouquet of flowers. This beautiful sculpture is one of the oldest representations created in the Gothic style in the area.

Architecturally, the sanctuary has three naves topped with a barrel vault. The Baroque door rises into the air and is capped with a belltower with space for three bells.

La Mare de Déu del Llosar Sanctuary is an absolutely beautiful place of worship that you simply have to visit during your time in Villafranca del Cid.
