The Sant Antoni festivities, or San Antonio festivities in Vilanova d’Alcolea, are one of the most charismatic in the province of Castellón. Their roots lie in a very ancient tradition, documented in the regions of Castellón since the 14th century, although in the town the earliest references date back to the late 19th century.
Among the San Antonio festivities in Castellón, this is one of the most charismatic and unique celebrations. Residents and visitors alike take part in a festival beginning at dusk with the Hoguera de los Mayorales or Bonfire of the Foremen, followed by the impressive Matxà, in which a procession bearing the saint's banner and horses parade through the streets jumping over the bonfires. The day ends with the Tropell, a traditional horse race, and the sharing of coca, a traditional cake for San Antonio. You simply must see it!
