Sitting on the top of Puig de la Misericòrdia, just a few kilometres from Vinaròs, is one of the most iconic sanctuaries in the area. Come for a visit.

Santuario de la Misericordia, La Misericordia Sanctuary in Vinaròs, is located 6 km from the centre and dates back to the 15th century. The presence of a chapel in this area has been documented at this time, although the present-day building is the result of many renovations and changes that were made between the 16th and 17th centuries. A new nave was built in 1722, financed by the local fishermen and farm workers who paid for the altarpieces dedicated to San Sebastián and San Antonio respectively. Later, in 1733, the high altar was commissioned to the artists F. e. I. Vergara, designed to house the statue of Virgen de la Misericordia.

The neoclassical-style sanctuary has plan of a Latin cross, a large nave with a canyon vault with lunettes, side chapels, a crossing with a dome and a straight-ended presbytery. Inside there are ceramic murals dating to the 18th century which are thought to come from L’Alcora as well as a spectacular mosaic floor. If you’re in the province of Castellón, visiting La Misericordia Sanctuary is a must!
