Forat de Bèrnia: A Circular Route
The Sierra de Bernia y Ferrer is perforated by a natural tunnel leading to a vast natural balcony, our forat or hole. From here, you have sweeping views over Altea, the Serra Gelada Natural Park and the Mediterranean Sea. It also offers a dramatic change of scenery after passing through its 15 m length: you leave the shade to welcome the light.
To go through the Forat de Bèrnia, you have to crouch down in some sections, but it quickly widens into a majestic shelter or cave. The experience of walking through it is astounding.
On your route, you pass through Altea la Vella and stunning, well-preserved landscapes. You might also want to include other fascinating stops on your itinerary, such as the ruins of Bernia Castle, a Renaissance fort, and even check out valuable cave paintings at the Ermita del Vicari.
