La Alhama Tower is an historic building that was previously the city gate and now the town hall.

Torre de la Alhama, La Alhama Tower in Alpuente, is a stand-out historic monument that dates back to medieval times. The tower sits atop a semicircular arch that used to be the city gate in the centre of the village and is currently home to the town hall. An impressive fortress, it served as a key point of surveillance and defence in the municipality. The tower's unique architecture rises majestically above the village landscape, evoking times of battles and conflicts. The stone-built, robust walls bear testament to its function as a defence bastion in times of uncertainty and danger.

Over the centuries, La Alhama Tower has borne witness to the evolution of the history of Alpuente and the surrounding county, becoming a symbol of the area’s rich culture and heritage. Tradition has it that Jaume I chose the tower to hold the Court of his recently conquered kingdom. The tower was modified in the 16th century when the ceilings were lowered and flooring replaced the previous slabs.

Visit this iconic tower and throw yourself into the past, connecting with the traditions and experiences of the generations that left their footprint behind. If you climb up to the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic visitas over the surrounding scenery and the charms of Alpuente. This is a place in which you can discover the destination’s fascinating history and value the importance of its cultural heritage.
