What to do in Faura

Start with a stroll through Faura’s traditional historic centre. This is a town whose origins date back to the Arab period. After wandering amongst traditional houses, visit the 16th-century Los Santos Juanes Parish Church, which was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Just opposite is the Señoría de la Baronía-Condado de Faura, or Barony-County Stately Mansion of Faura, a residential building built in the 15th century that was originally a watchtower. It is a Gothic building in excellent condition, which preserves the Vilarrasa family’s noble coat of arms on its façade.

Continuing on our quest of discovering what to see in Faura, we arrive at the old municipal wash house and watering place. The wash house is stunningly well preserved and is an authentic example of how people lived in our villages in decades past.

Let us stroll on through Faura by walking to the Calvary and the Hermitage of Santa Bárbara. Little by little we will envelope ourselves in a landscape of orange trees that surrounds the town. Here, ancient hydraulic infrastructure still survives, a piece of historical heritage that is still in use. These are the sistars or partitions, which divide the network of irrigation channels in Faura. Take a stroll through the fields and discover this network of traditional channels.

You will also find an old water mill and, if you are a fan of hiking or cycling, you will find delightful paths and routes that take you to places such as the Pico de los Cuervos. From here you will gain an exceptional panoramic view that takes in our Mediterranean and the entire coastal plain. Start this itinerary from the chapel.
