Explore Sagunto’s Blast Furnace No. 2, an icon of the local steel industry, and discover the structure’s history and restoration.

Throw yourself into the history of Sagunto at Horno Alto nº2, Blast Furnace No. 2, which is a symbol of industrial engineering. Built in 1922 and reconstructed in the 1960s, the huge furnace – which is over 60m tall – played a crucial role in steel production. Following the steelworks’ closure in 1984, the furnace has come to symbolise Puerto de Sagunto. Three furnaces used to fuel the old factory: this is the only one that remains. In 1998, renowned architects Carmel Gradolí, Arturo Sanz and Luis Francisco Herrero renovated Blast Furnace No. 2, maintaining parts of the original structure to bring it back to life.

Recognised at the European level, Blast Furnace No. 2 won the Europa Nostra Award in 2012 for the cultural heritage site's exceptional restoration and preservation.
