Torre de Satareña is one of Serra’s most iconic towers. Discover why.

Serra is home to a number of century-old towers that tell the story of a destination that historically needed protection and defence. Fortunately, a number of these constructions are still standing to this day, namely Torre de la Ermita, Torre del Señor, Torre de Ría and Torre de Satareña. You can tour them as part of Ruta de las Torres.

The latter is currently in ruins. Torre de Satareña was built between the 8th and 9th centuries and was part of the castle’s alert and surveillance system, playing an important role in communicating movements around the Náquera area.

The tower has a square plan and is built with rammed earth and stonework. The entrance is believed to have been on the first floor. The walls are covered with a layer of lime mortar. Currently, only the first floor of the structure remains; the rest has disappeared.

Even so, the ruins of Torre de Satarenya have been listed a Site of Cultural Interest. To visit, follow Les Vinyetes trail through the woodland surrounding Serra castle. A wonderful way to soak up the local scenery and take a look around this Islamic tower.
