The Velluters district in València is home to a museum housed in a beautiful building. Come and delve into the tradition and history of silk in the city.

Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda y su Huerto, the College of the Fine Art of Silk and its Garden, is a must for your cultural itinerary of València. You’re going to love everything you see in the museum.

The building housing the museum is spectacular. Built in the Gothic style in the 15th century, over the years it underwent a number of improvements and remodels. You will now also see elements of the Baroque.

The palace is adorned with mosaics, murals and frescoes as well as great stories that are connected to the city. The College of the Fine Art of Silk and its Garden was once home to València’s silk guild, which represented an incredibly important industry. The guild’s magnificent archive, which is one of the most important on the continent, is housed in the College. If you’re interested in the silk industry, make sure you also visit the Silk Exchange, a unique building that will give you a broader understanding of the sector.

The College of the Fine Art of Silk and its Garden have given the Velluters district its name (meaning “velvet weavers”). During your visit, you will delve into the history of the industry, admire the frescoes and ceramics in Salón de la Fama, the chapel which has a magnificent spiral staircase and, of course, the archive. Temporary exhibition around the art of silk are also on display and there is a shop selling beautiful, delicate pieces. To complete your visit, have a bite to eat in the restaurant, which sits in the beautiful garden.
