From historic sites to beautiful naturescapes and impressive street art, Zarra has got plenty of surprises up its sleeves.

Located in Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora in the province of Valencia, Zarra is the perfect destination if you’re keen to immerse yourself in the natural world and soak up some culture. Come with us to discover everything you can see and do in the village.

What to do in Zarra

Defined by its steep and narrow streets that hark back to medieval times, Zarra’s historic centre has a number of points of interest that are worth stopping off at. Santa Ana church, for instance, which dates back to 1760. And then there’s the belltower, whose bells are still rung by hand, the plaza and the public wash house

As you wander around, your attention will doubtlessly be drawn to the street art decorating a number of walls and façades in the village. Follow Ruta del Arte, the art tour, to see depictions of the Mona Lisa and Las Meninas

Just outside the village, at Cerro del Tesoro to be precise, an Iberian necropolis has been found, indicating that the destination has been populated for many centuries. While you’re here, we’d also recommend visiting Bosque Encantado, a section of woodland in Hoz de Zarra where you can see trees that have been colourfully “yarn bombed”. Your photos will be spectacular.

La Hoz is home to a large area of woodland whose aquifers were crucial to the history of Zarra. In the area, you can see some old dwellings, which are no longer inhabited, as well as a canal network that was once connected to an old hydraulic centre. Once you’ve explored the area, you and your family can enjoy the services at Presa de Zarra, a picnic area complete with barbecues, fountains and toilets. The perfect place to enjoy a day out in the great outdoors.

Also well worth a visit are the dams Presa de los comuneros, which sits in the gorge of the river Zarra, and Presa del Rentón. You also won’t want to miss the river Zarra, the caves, springs, aquifers, mills and more as you leisurely walk or pedal your way through the landscape, stopping from time to time to breathe in the views. Don’t miss the opportunity to treat your palate to cherries, when they’re in season, and other gastronomic delights. Start planning your getaway to Zarra today.
