One of Agost’s tourist attractions, Museo de Cantereria (the pottery museum) gives you the opportunity to explore the history and heritage of this part of L'Alacantí. The museum is housed in an old ceramics factory which opened in the year 1902. The factory’s original features have been conserved and during your visit you can see the Arab kilns, the clay decantation basins and the workshop. The factory closed in 1975 and the museum opened in 1981. The site has been renovated and is in excellent condition.

Museo de Cantereria in Agost aims to raise awareness about and study local cultural heritage, which is intertwined with pottery. The museum’s vast collection comprises over 4,500 pottery and ethnological pieces from Agost and other parts of Spain. The museum continues to receive donations from individuals that expand and bring greater diversity to the collection.

The museum also has its very own shop where you can browse artisanal pieces made by Agost locals out of local white clay. Can you imagine a lovelier souvenir to take home with you? There is also a specialist library packed with all sorts of books about ceramics, traditional pottery, art, history and archaeology.

If you’re wondering what to see in Agost, in the province of Alicante, during your time here, make sure you put the museum on your to-visit list. And explore Agost through its pitchers and vases.
