Come and discover a spectacular festival that transforms the streets of Elche.

Elche's Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos en honor a la Mare de Déu de l'Assumpció, Moors and Christians Festival in honour of the Mare de Déu de l'Assumpció, is one of the most important facets of the celebrations for Elche's patron saint.

From 7 to 11 August, two contrasting "armies" in Elche's Moors and Christians Festival hold colourful parades that conquer the city to the sound of festive music.

The "battle" in which they compete is known as El Alardo, and one of its features is the launching of pyrotechnics from arquebuses.

During these festivities in Elche to honour of the Virgin of the Assumption, the figure of Jaime I is preeminent in re-enacting the negotiations between the Christian knights and Arab warriors. Furthermore, part of the festival is held in the fabulous Altamira Castle-Palace. This is a date in Elche you simply cannot miss!
