This GR footpath from Orihuela to Elche is an invigorating and healthy way to discover two fascinating regions overflowing with things to see and do: La Vega Baja and El Baix Vinalopó, located in the south of Alicante province. Keeping the Segura and Vinalopó rivers company, the route meanders across a flat, fertile landscape that has traditionally been linked to irrigated farming. Nowadays, however, agriculture coexists with industry, tourism and services. Its low, sandy coastline wows walkers with its fine sandy beaches and spectacular dunes in La Mata, Guardamar del Segura and Santa Pola.

This environment is home to landscapes such as orchards, mountains, sea and historical towns like Orihuela and Elche, packed with a heritage that amazes visitors. Along the way, you are greeted with unique attractions such as old railway lines converted into greenways, natural areas of inestimable ecological value such as the natural parks of the Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja, del Hondo or the Salinas de Santa Pola, all of which are bird sanctuaries.
