Discover a symbolic site in Ibi with white walls: Santa Lucía Chapel.

Ermita de Santa Lucía, Santa Lucía Chapel sits atop a hill in Ibi where Vermell Castle was located centuries ago. The chapel is built on the castle ruins and there is evidence that that it existed in as far back as the 16th century. Centuries later, in 1970, the place of worship was reconstructed and its value recognised when it was listed a Site of Cultural Interest.

The walls of this chapel in Ibi were built using (ordinary 55cm) masonry and large blocks of stone were used to reinforce the corners. It has a groin vault and the roof is covered with Arab tiles. Painted quintessentially white, the chapel can be seen from various points in Ibi. It has therefore come to be seen as the white symbol of the town. Climb up to it and you’ll enjoy incredible views over the surroundings. If you like rural and nature tourism, Ibi is a great choice of destination.

The municipality has a number of other chapels that are also well worth visiting, namely San Vicente Chapel (inside the town), San Miguel Chapel and San Pascual Chapel (outside the town). Discover Ibi’s most unique buildings, soak up its history and take part in the local festivities: Santa Lucía Chapel is an integral part of Santa Lucía Festival which is held in December.
