Come to Villajoyosa and discover its Roman past in a number of well-conserved sights.

Torre de Sant Josep, Sant Josep Tower, is located close to the sea, on El Torres Beach in Villajoyosa, a town in the province of Alicante. It is the most significant Roman funerary monument in Spain. Built between 150 and 170 A.D., the monument is in honour of Lucio Terencio Marcino. It is remarkable for its monumentality and unique location: rather than being placed next to a road (as was customary), it overlooks the Mediterranean so that sailors would remember it from sea.

Sant Josep Tower has been carefully restored and retains its Roman essence. It is surrounded by a pretty funerary garden with symbolic plants like cypresses, ivy, lavender and myrtle. Make sure you come and visit it during your time in Villajoyosa and enjoy a getaway full of history.
