Located in a beautiful cave, Santuario de la Cueva Santa is a unique chapel housing a sculpture of the Virgin.

Immersed in a beautiful naturescape, Altura is a small village that boasts wonderful historic sights. A case in point is Cueva Santa, a holy cave that has been a place of worship and pilgrimage for centuries.

The chapel came to be of such importance in the year 1502 when a sculpture of the Virgin was found here. Following this discovery, a great many miracles occurred which were connected to the object. From that moment on, Cueva Santa became a place of worship and a destination of pilgrimages from the villages populating Alto Palancia.

Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cueva Santa is enveloped in an area of natural beauty. Nearby is Alto de Montmayor, a mountainscape that is well worth a visit. Sitting at the bottom of a 20m deep karstic cave, the chapel is dedicated to Virgen de la Cueva Santa, the patron saint of Spanish cavers.

The Region of Valencia is full of historic and mystical sites like Cueva Santa. Come and explore them for yourself.
