Visit a tower that speaks of Cirat’s history over recent centuries. There’s a lot to discover.

Sitting in the heart of Plaza Mayor in Cirat, a village located in the province of Castellón, you will find the Tower of Los Condes Palace. This tower was built in the 13th century, in the midst of the Moorish and Conquest period. It has a rectangular plan and the façade has a 1.2m sloped ramp to provide access to the interior.

When you step into the tower you will see that it has two floors. On the ground floor you will see the transformation the tower has undergone over time. It didn’t originally have an entrance or a staircase that enabled access to the first floor. It is believed that this floor was once a cistern, as you can see a blocked up opening in the upper slab.

If you climb up the stairs, you will find yourself on the first floor. The fireplace on the western wall gives you a look at the jamb and the lintel, and you can also see the Vilarig coat of arms, referring to Bernat de Vilarig, who was the lord of Cirat in the 17th century.

On the outside of the tower, you can see the marks of the stonemasons and carvings in the windows. Los Condes Palace in Cirat, which used to be connected to the tower, was divided among three heirs. The central part of the palace was demolished, together with the remaining façade. Luckily, the tower is still standing so you can come and take a look around and delve into Cirat’s past. Don’t miss it.
