Casa dels Arbres is more than 150 years old. Fully restored in 2012, it retains its original structure while incorporating the comforts needed for a relaxed and memorable stay.
What sets this rural house in Sant Mateu apart are its themed bedrooms, each dedicated to a native tree from the surrounding area: the carob tree, the olive tree, the almond tree and the holm oak. Each room has its own identity, creating a quiet connection with the natural landscapes of the province of Castellón.
Where is Casa dels Arbres and what can you do there?
The house is located in Sant Mateu, the historic capital of El Baix Maestrat. This town is a rewarding destination for anyone drawn to history, as its old quarter preserves 13th-century buildings with stone façades and Gothic arches that reflect its prosperous past as a centre of the wool trade.
During your stay at Casa dels Arbres, you can visit the 15th-century Gothic Town Hall and the Palace of the Marqués de Villores, a fine example of 16th-century Renaissance architecture. Take a stroll through the Plaza Mayor, also known as Plaza del Ángel, which has been the heart of the town since medieval times, and explore the remains of the old defensive walls, where original arrow slits are still visible. The Archpriest Church of San Mateo Apóstol is another highlight and stands as one of the most important examples of Valencian Gothic architecture. You can also step inside the Gothic Oven, which is now home to the local Tourist Information Office.
