Be sure to include this characterful, history-rich spot on your route around Torreblanca.

El Calvario y Primitiva Iglesia de Torreblanca, the Calvary and Early Church of Torreblanca form an important historic site that is well worth visiting. A trip to this part of Castellón offers the chance to explore some of the town’s most representative monuments in a setting shaped by history and landscape.

What to see in Torreblanca: Calvary and Early Church

The Calvary, built between 1739 and 1741, follows a zigzagging path lined with cypress trees and stone-built stations, leading up to the Chapel of Christ, which is topped by a distinctive blue-tiled dome. Within this complex stands one of Torreblanca’s most significant landmarks: the 14th-century hermitage-fortress of San Francisco.

This former defensive church still preserves sections of its walls, arrow slits and a barbican, all of which reflect its military past. Inside, Gothic elements such as ribbed vaults and the town’s original coat of arms remain clearly visible. The site offers a thoughtful combination of religious architecture, defensive design and natural surroundings, along with wide views over the area that make the visit especially rewarding.
