Don’t miss the Concurso Internacional d'Allipebre, the International Allipebre Competition, held every September in the iconic Port of Catarroja, where nature becomes the backdrop to one enormous open-air kitchen. It’s a beautiful setting, and also the departure point for traditional lateen-sail boats heading out across l’Albufera Natural Park.

During the competition, hundreds of portions of allipebre d’anguila, local eel stew, are prepared in the classic iron perol, just as custom dictates.

With canals leading out towards the lake, rice fields all around and the unmistakable aroma of the cooking in the air, the setting is every bit as memorable as the food. Bring a plate or food container and make a day of it while discovering the cultural and natural essence of this part of Valencia.
