What to do in Gavarda
If you take a walk through the centre of Gavarda, you’ll discover a small village bathed in light and surrounded by fruit groves sitting on the banks of the River Júcar. La Purísima Parish Church will be one of your first stops, followed by the old public wash house, a place bursting with charm.
Additionally you can take some photographs at the 18th-century King Bridge, as well as the 20th-century Iron Bridge, which crosses the River Júcar between Gavarda and Beneixida.
The Napoleonic Battery in Gavarda is a fascinating testament to the destination’s historic past. This defence site, built in the early 19th century, was part of the fortifications constructed during the Peninsular War, fought between 1808 and 1814, to control the River Júcar and face the advance of French troops.
The elevated position of the site affords spectacular panoramic views. Nowadays you can still see part of the structure.
Another option is to walk different hiking trails in Gavarda that will take you on an exploration of its pretty natural surrounds. The views over the River Júcar and the traditional agricultural land are an added bonus to your visit. You’re going to love the peace and quiet of the landscapes here and its proximity to other historical destinations in the area like Antella. Come for a visit!
