Nestled in a peaceful spot with beautiful views, Fuente de Santa Bárbara is a lovely fountain that is well worth visiting during your time in Macastre.

Fuente de Santa Bárbara is a lovely fountain in Macastre, a village in La Hoya de Buñol known for its ruined castle and beautiful countryside. To get to the fountain, walk down Eduard Escalante street towards Las Eras district, where you will find an alleyway. Keep walking down this and at the bottom you will find the fountain.

The pretty area contains the fountain as well as an old wash house. From here you can gaze out at beautiful views over the countryside enveloping the town, the ruins of the castle and nearby municipalities such as Turís.

In their time, Santa Bárbara fountain and the wash house were a hive of activity in Macastre. Nowadays, they make a lovely spot to take a break and cool down. If you’re walking the PR-CV 191, make the most of the opportunity to refill your bottle with fresh water. Starting in Plaza de los Árboles, the trail will take you south where you will cross both the river Magro and the river Regajo. The walk will lead you to plenty of sights beyond Fuente de Santa Bárbara, namely Alto de Don Pedro, Caracastellano and Bolot fountains, Piedra Micaela and Las Salinas. The route is relatively long (24km) and of intermediate difficulty, so you should make sure you have some sustenance in your backpack. For this there’s nothing better than a locally made sausage, freshly baked bread, panquemado or a traditional pastry. Don’t miss the fountain during your time in the village.
