Walk the Stations of the Cross until you reach San Francisco de Asís y el Calvario Chapel, an emblem of Náquera.

If you ask any Náquera local what the most emblematic building in the municipality is, many of them are sure to reply Ermita de San Francisco de Asís y el Calvario, San Francisco de Asís y el Calvario Chapel. This place of worship, which is still standing today, has a long history behind it and is popular among visitors, forming part of the landscape of El Camp de Túria.

This chapel in Náquera dates back to a previous construction, La Ràpita Chapel, which stood at the entrance of the Stations of the Cross. Its date of construction is unknown, although documents state that a San Francisco de Asís Chapel existed in Náquera in the 17th century.

Construction work on the new chapel, which you can see today, was conducted in 1912. The original building had fallen down and was rebuilt a decade later thanks to the local population that provided materials, economic resources and the workforce. The result is a Neo-Gothic building with one nave, no side chapels and three sections of rib vault.

The exterior of the chapel is simple and has hardly any decorations. Nearby you can see the Stations of the Cross. The present-day Stations of the Cross was built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Take a walk to see the 14 stations made with tiles and glazed tiles. If you are wondering what to see in Náquera, your visit will not be complete until you poke your head into San Francisco de Asís y el Calvario Chapel. Enjoy the local heritage.
