One of the most ancient vestiges that Sagunto keeps, are the remains of the walls known as the “Templo de Diana” (Diana's Temple) which has the honour of being the only building that was saved during the siege of the city by the Carthaginian, Hannibal. Found close to the Church of Santa Maria there is a separate construction, made of big blocks of stone, fifteen metres in length and four metres high. Close by, inscriptions have been found that point to the worship of the Goddess Diana. It acquired the condition of National Monument in 1963.
