What to do in Sumacàrcer
We’re going to start our explorations in an unusual way, looking down on the centre of Sumacàrcer from a height. They do so, head to the castle, a 10th-century Islamic fortress. This is a fascinating place in which different civilisations have left their mark.
Not far away there is the local cemetery, whose art nouveau-style architecture sits in a magical setting. Make sure you take a look at the traditional wash house – you’re sure to enjoy taking some photos here.
You can reach the streets of Sumacàrcer after an easy 2.5 km trail from the castle to visit 18th-century San Antonio Abad Parish Church and El Calvario Chapel, dating to the same period and affording great views over the orange groves surrounding Sumacàrcer. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a peaceful wander among the traditional houses.
The natural landscapes in Sumacàrcer are home to trails that make their way through beautiful scenery, sitting on the banks of the River Júcar and with views over El Caroig mountain range.
