Discover the landscape of Valencia’s market gardens from Tavernes Blanques, a small town with a surprising tradition of artistic porcelain that has earned international fame.
Tavernes Blanques sits in Valencia’s l’horta nord region, surrounded by traditional market gardens, irrigation channels and the soft light of the Mediterranean. Come and explore its best-known sights, as well as an exceptional museum.
What to see in Tavernes Blanques?
Start with a stroll through the town centre, where you’ll come across traditional houses before reaching the 18th-century parish church of Santísima Trinidad. From there, make your way to the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Santos Inocentes y Mártires, a small 17th-century chapel beside the iconic Barranco del Carraixet, which is well worth including in your route.
Tavernes Blanques’ hydraulic heritage
Another place worth seeing is the Alboraya-Almàssera water divider, a historic hydraulic structure whose origins date back to before the 13th century, although it has been adapted over the centuries. Its purpose is to divide the water from the main irrigation channel into smaller branches, and once you see it up close, you’ll really understand how important this irrigation system has been to the area.
You can then follow these waterways through beautifully kept market gardens, which fill the landscape with changing colours and scents. Whether you go on foot or by bike, the market garden paths are a lovely way to explore the area and, moreover, they connect with other villages near Tavernes Blanques, such as Almàssera, Bonrepòs i Mirambell and Alboraya.
Lladró Museum in Tavernes Blanques
Tavernes Blanques is also home to the fascinating Lladró Museum, where you can discover the history and processes that have turned its decorative porcelain into a world-renowned craft. Add it to your route and you’ll be able to admire iconic pieces from different periods, see how its style has evolved over time and, at the same time, appreciate its constant capacity for innovation.
How to get to Tavernes Blanques?
Although you can reach Tavernes Blanques by road or public transport, we suggest taking the Vía Verde Xurra, which brings you very close to the town centre while immersing you fully in the landscape of this region.
