Come and explore this beautiful chapel in Tavernes de la Valldigna.

Ermita del Santísimo Cristo del Calvario, El Santísimo Cristo del Calvario Chapel, is located in Tavernes de la Valldigna in the province of Valencia. It stands on Monte de las Tres Cruces, the highest point of the town, to the north. Built between 1871 and 1873, it has a single nave with a barrel vault supported by a transverse arch and decorated with floral motifs. The eclectic interior combines the grey of the walls with the white of the pilasters, cornices and side arches that house various images. The altar is particularly striking, with four fluted Corinthian columns supporting the entablature.

The neobaroque façade of this chapel in Tavernes de la Valldigna is divided into three sections by four pilasters. The lintelled door is set beneath a semi-circular arch and a rose window with stained glass.

In front of the chapel, you can see the zigzagging Stations of the Cross with their ceramic panels depicting the stations and tall cypress trees surrounding the area.

Don’t miss the patron saint festivities, which take place in the second week of September, featuring the traditional baixada del Cristo down to San Pedro Church and the subsequent pujada back up to the hermitage.
