The tower of Torrent Castle holds centuries of history within its walls and is a symbol of the town.

If you’re wondering what to see in Torrent, a must-visit sits in Plaza Mayor. Torre del Castillo de Torrent, the tower of Torrent Castle dates back to the 12th century and has become an icon of the town. Did you know that Torrent’s coat of arms features three towers?

Torre del Castillo was constructed in the 12th century as part as the old Muslim fortress. It is one of many towers that were built in Ál-Andalus in this century due to the threat posed by the Christian kingdoms. Their purpose was to provide defence, protection and shelter to local residents, and they became essential in facing attacks and communicating with other towers to coordinate defence.

When you stand outside Torre de Torrent, you will see a 22m high building with a square plan and a prism-shape whose top has been cut off. Inside there are five vaulted storeys with rooms in each. At the top, there is a terrace whose corners have been crowned with pinnacles featuring Cruz de la Orden Hospitalaria and the figure of the bat.

The inside of Torre del Castillo de Torrente has been turned into a museum to host art exhibitions and encourage people to visit this heritage site. Come and admire a Site of Cultural Interest that will transport you back to the Muslim period.
