Alcalalí's heritage sites include treasures like Virgen del Calvario chapel.

Virgen del Calvario chapel is located in Partida de la Solana in Alcalalí, province of Alicante. To get to the chapel, you will first need to walk the Stations of the Cross with its 14 chapels representing the 14 episodes of the Passion of Christ. All the chapels were made by the parish priest Juan Bautista Serer, an Alcalalí local, who used big blocks of limestone to portray every episode.

Alcalalí chapel comprises the place of worship and the sacristy, which is headed by a statue of Santísimo Cristo de la Sed. You can also see a sculpture of Virgen del Calvario, created by the Valencian sculptor Vicente Rodilla Zanón.

Construction work was completed on the chapel in the year 1954. Prior to this, the Stations of the Cross were located on Calle del Calvario. A decision was made to build a new one in Partida de la Solana. To complete the Stations of the Cross, a chapel was built dedicated to Santísima Virgen. Locals volunteered to help build the structure you can see today, doing carpentry, dynamiting the rocks, painting and doing other construction jobs.

Make your way to Paseo de la Ermita, enjoy the views from the walk and visit the chapel that crowns the site. If you are wondering what to do in Alcalalí, this visit will bring you a sense of peace and tranquillity.
