La Natividad de Nuestra Señora church in Alcalalí is home to valuable heritage pieces.

Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Alcalalí is home to Iglesia Parroquial de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora, La Natividad de Nuestra Señora Church, the parish church of this charming part of the province of Alicante. The church has a long history behind it, though it was not the first Catholic place of worship to be built in Alcalalí, which dates back to 1577.

The church in Alcalalí you can see today was built between 1768 and 1808. Unfortunately, a large part was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War and many locals hid valuable objects from it in their homes. These were returned at the end of the conflict. In 1961, the reconstruction work was completed and today you can visit this impressive local church.

Shaped as a Latin cross, this is a Neoclassical building which has two sections of side chapels located between the buttresses. Inside, you will be taken aback by the Neoclassical patterns and the image of Cristo de la Salud, which is of great historic value. Sant Joanet de la Mosquera Bell, a Site of Cultural Interest, which originates from San Juan de la Mosquera Chapel, is now housed in the bell room.

Make the most of your visit to La Natividad de Nuestra Señora Church to take a look around San Juan de la Ribera Parish Museum, which is housed inside the church. The museum displays paintings, sculptures, gold objects and the gowns of the Lihori family as well as a library which tells the story of the parish church. Make sure you come for a visit.
