Discover a tower in Alcalalí with a long history behind it.

Sitting in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Alcalalí Tower was for many years the tallest structure in the village; that was until a church was built opposite it in the 18th century. To this day, they remain the two tallest buildings in Alcalalí: no modern construction has ruined the charm and essence of the historic centre.

Alcalalí's Medieval Tower was built in the late 14th century. In this period, Alcalalí and La Vall de Pop were frequently attacked by pirates and bandits. The purpose of the tower was to monitor the area and become a place of shelter in the event of invasion.

Later, and on the request of the Ruiz de Lihory family, an elegant residence was built next to the tower and connected with a drawbridge.

The family governed Alcalalí until 1837. The sight is therefore also known as the Rois de Liori Tower and Palace.

Since 1992, the tower has belonged to Ayuntamiento de Alcalalí, which restored it and turned it into a viewing point. Climb up the steps to gaze at the incredible vistas over La Vall de Pop. The tower's original structure is still standing with five floors that currently house a museum (on the first and second floors). Interestingly, on the third floor you will find engravings and graffiti made in the 16th and 18th centuries, which will give you an insight into the habits and customs of the locals of the time. Don't miss it.
