The current temple, which is dedicated to the patron saint of the town, was blessed in 1921. This is a historicist Neo-Romanesque building, with a meticulous decoration on the inside in Neo-Byzantine style. Vicente Valls Gadea took part in this design of architect Timoteo Briet (1913).
The temple's apse is decorated with a large pictorial mural, by the local artist Fernando Cabrera Cantó. This mural depicts San Jorge’s mythical intervention —in 1276—, to protect the inhabitants of Alcoi from the attack of the Muslim troops. This iconography shows the faith and tradition of the people with the annual Festival of Moors and Christians.
