The Moors and Christians Festival in Calp, Alicante, was first held in 1977 and has since become one of the town’s most eagerly awaited events. Organised by the Moors and Christians Association, with the support of the Festival Committee, it brings together religious, cultural and historical celebrations that fill the streets with colour and music.
When does the Moors and Christians Festival in Calp take place?
The festival is held in October and is celebrated in honour of Santísimo Cristo del Sudor.
The beat of the drums marks the start of the Moors and Christians Festival in Calp, setting the scene for standout moments such as the landing on Arenal Beach and the grand parade, where the striking costumes and the rhythm of the marching groups take centre stage. The scent of gunpowder, the Moorish and Christian filaes, and the enthusiasm of the crowd blend seamlessly with street parades, open-air dances, live music, a paella competition, correfocs, and the procession in honour of Santísimo Cristo del Sudor. It’s a celebration that reveals another side of Calp and its lively festive spirit.
