Visit this great fortress in the heart of Sierra de Irta and be blown away by its history and views.

Castillo Templario de Xivert is situated in south-western Sierra de Irta. Built between the 10th and 11th centuries by the Moors, the castle underwent structural changes when it was seized by the Knights Templar during the Conquest. Examples of this Christian influence are the wall separating the castle and the local population, the twin circular towers and the dressed stone curtain wall.

The location of the castle is itself reason to visit. Sitting atop a mound, it overlooks the flatlands and the sea, affording the most spectacular views. But the vistas are just the start of all its wonders. The fortress expands over a total surface area of 8,000m2 which will transport you back in time through a long and fascinating history.

The alcazaba occupies the highest part of the site. Here you can find the albacar, a walled area where both locals and their cattle would take refuge in times of conflict. In the castle proper you will see Gothic chapels, towers, Kufic inscriptions and many other details that tell the story of life at the time. The cistern is another point of interest. It is made of dressed stone and located next to the alcazaba.

Listed a Site of Cultural Interest, Castillo Templario de Xivert continues to reveal treasures from the past thanks to ongoing archaeological digs. Over the years, many settlers have passed through the area; be one of them and come and visit this impressive castle.
