Few people know this, but one of the architects of the metric system, the astronomer Pierre Méchain developed his theories in the Desert de les Palmes Natural Park. He died of a mosquito-borne disease and was buried in Castellon. However, it is rumoured that his ghost continues to visit the mountains of Benicàssim and attempt to cross them back to his native France.
